File back-up is often poorly managed with maybe one person tasked with making a CD or tape back-up which is then stored in the same building. The completeness of the back-up is rarely checked. Even if the back-up is taken home by someone, should that company suffer a data loss through a virus, accidental deletion, power spike or cut, PC theft, fire or flood, then an employee has to drive home to get the tape, painstakingly retrieve the files and place them all back in the right places. That's when the reality becomes apparent - the tape is old, files are missing, or it's been placed near a magnet (such as a speaker) and the files are corrupted. CDs get scratched, and a small percentage of them don't write or read properly, and they only hold 700Mb.

Your data is encrypted using military-grade, triple DES 112-bit technology before it leaves your computer. No unencrypted data crosses the Internet. No one can read the files you store on the backup data servers. Restored files are decrypted on your machine using your unique encryption key .You can set your encryption key or create it randomly.
You can opt for stronger levels of encryption, up to 128-bit AES. The service has been designed to accommodate newer types of encryption and longer keys as these become available
